Marcus
All right, well hey, great to see you guys again. Will you tell us your names, the name of the company and your roles at the company?
Stefan
I’m Stefan, I’m the CEO of Maestrano.
Otto
I’m Otto, I’m CTO at Maestrano.
Marcus
So what is Maestrano?
Stefan
Well, Maestrano, it’s kind of an enterprise of sorts, for permission, for businesses, small, medium businesses and startups, and basically we provide applications to run their businesses A to Z. We deploy them, the applications, we host them and it’s a pay per use system so we are among the cheapest prices you can find on the market, basically.
Marcus
So do you build the applications that the people would use?
Stefan
No, we don’t. So applications are actually built by third parties, being the open source community, being proprietary applications----
Marcus
Okay.
Stefan
----all we do is we put them on the website in kind of a marketplace and people come and choose them and what we do we install it for them, we manage them, we support them, and all of that happens within three----
Marcus
What are some of the examples of applications people can choose from?
Otto
So basically you have ERPs, CRMs like SugarCRM, Jenkins, Mantis for the back tracker, Pentaho Bl as a reporting application----
Stefan
Drupal, Joomla!
Marcus
Yeah, that’s very popular.
Stefan
We’ve got Word Reference.
Marcus
Okay. And are you going to be continuing to add to that list or are these the kinds of things—are there new things you’re going to be adding?
Stefan
The hot topic is, right now we’re got 30 of them all in all.
Marcus
Okay.
Stefan
In probably two or three month time we’ll have 50 of them and within the next 6 months we’ll probably have around a hundred of them. So Maestrano is the website to keep checking out on.
Marcus
And what’s your tech stack? What powers all of this?
Otto
So basically we have the applications running on our virtualized environments, so you basically start your applications; that’s how you save money so every time it starts up it gets on our virtualized environments and uploaded to you guys for use.
Marcus
And what’s underneath the virtualized environment?
Otto
So it’s all cloud based, scalability is handled by us----
Marcus
Okay.
Otto
And servers are provided by Amazon Web Service so all cloud based.
Marcus
What languages and tools do you guys use to build your layering?
Otto
Well, from the ground up we use like Linux Lolava languages and also Ruby for all the management layer and also the website.
Marcus
Very cool, very cool. So what gave you guys this idea? As I recall you have a corporate background, right?
Stefan
Yeah, so we both come from a corporate background and we’ve been extremely frustrated with the lack of flexibility, the lack of efficiency of the tools we had to use, and we had another idea of a company at the beginning of startup, and we were looking for exactly what we created. We were looking for simple, easy, cheap applications, you know, that we could use to build our business. We didn’t find it, so we parked that idea on the side for the moment and we said, let’s just do that, because it’s a need. And typically startups, with a need for issue tracking, bug tracking and like issues they would probably pay few dollars a month on Maestrano to have all of that done for them. And trust us; it will save them more than money, time.
Marcus
And do you pay—are startups paying per application or per seat for the users? So if I have 10 people in my company am I paying a price because there are 10 seats I have to get?
Stefan
Definitely applications. What we do is you have one application, you can have as many people using it as you want. You still pay the same price for the hour for the application.
Marcus
Great. And do you guys do this full time?
Both
Yes! Yes!
Stefan
Definitely.
Marcus
And where are you from, where are you based?
Stefan
We’re from Sydney, Australia.
Marcus
All right. So you do this full time, you left your easy, cushy corporate jobs, right?
Stefan
Yes.
Otto
That's right.
Marcus
And how much have you put on the line to be here to start this company? What’s it mean to be here?
Stefan
It means a lot, because pretty much, as you said, comfortable corporate environment, kippers life, no more you got your mortgage, your house, et cetera. We pretty much gave up on all that and we gave a shot to our dream.
Otto
We are living the dream right now.
Stefan
We are living the dream. So coming here was difficult because we are a startup starting. It was difficult but definitely worth it. Awesome conference. Yeah, we’ll be back next year.
Marcus
Awesome. Awesome. If Maestrano was a Super Hero, what’s its super power?
Otto
Simplicity. If it’s that—if that’s a super power.
Stefan
Superman. Superman. Strong, efficient, I drive fast.
Marcus
There we go. Very nice. So where can people find this if they want to connect with you guys or start using the product?
Stefan
Look at www.maestrano.com the most obvious way. You Google Maestrano, you’ll find us, we’re on Twitter, Maestrano, there’s a LinkedIn page, Maestrano, we’re on Facebook, there’s a Maestrano page, we’re everywhere guys.
Marcus
All right, well thank you guys.
Otto
Thank you.
Stefan
Thanks Marcus.
