Marcus
Great, well, we’re here with WhatsBusy and tell us your name and your role in the company?
Kash
Sure, my name is Kash and I’m a Co-Founder here at WhatsBusy.
Marcus
What is WhatsBusy?
Kash
WhatsBusy is a platform that gives you the ability to find places and see how busy they are, now and in the future. So, one of the most interesting things that we read lately is that by the time you turn 70, you have wasted over three years of your life waiting.
Marcus
Three years?
Kash
Three years. So that’s time you’re never going to get back. Here in California it’s probably a little bit longer than that. So if you think about it, when you’re on your death bed, the last thing you want is another piece of pizza or a sandwich. You want time. So that’s what we do. We give you the ability to find those experiences you’re looking for, not just now, but in the future, using predictive analytics.
Marcus
Give me an example. I wait in a lot of lines.
Kash
Sure. So, as of Monday we are forecasting 50,000 venues nation wide. We are forecasting every security checkpoint in the country, restaurants, bars, museums, DMVs. So, for instance, if you’re going out tonight with your wife or your girlfriend and you want to go to a restaurant, we can tell you what the experience is going to be like before you get there, to make sure that it meets your criteria.
Marcus
Sometimes I want to—when I go to the DMV, I want it to be not busy.
Kash
Right, right.
Marcus
But when I go to a club----
Kash
Sure.
Marcus
----I want it to be hoppin’.
Kash
Well, it just depends on what you’re looking for. So if you’re looking for a romantic night with your wife or your girlfriend and I want to go out with the guys, we both go to the same place, the same time, we’re going to have different experiences. And you don’t want that. You want to make sure you have the best experience always. So by providing that transparency, you can ensure that you get what you want.
Marcus
And what’s your background?
Kash
Sure, my background is Engineering and Science.
Marcus
Okay and what gave you—you’re the Founder?
Kash
Sure.
Marcus
So what gave you this idea?
Kash
Typical story, you know, girls—but, lack thereof in our case. So, we went skiing, we went to Lake Tahoe, and it’s about a 3-hour bus ride all the way up, so we don’t really ski, we like to dress in 70’s gear, and you know, help the snow bunnies, but unfortunately, there was no one there. So we were thinking about how much time we had wasted and being Engineers, we looked at it mathematically. So we started looking at this on the consumer side to help people save time and we also learned that businesses also don’t know when they are going to be busy. So for about two years we were working strictly with businesses to help optimize their labor and planning and staffing and make them more successful and now we’re releasing to consumers.
Marcus
So that Lake Tahoe trip, when you went skiing, how do they put in their information into the system so that you as a consumer know when the girls are going to be there?
Kash
Sure. Well, they aren’t going to put in a guy to girl ratio of course, but we actually had this integration. There’s things called point of sale systems----
Marcus
Sure.
Kash
----at restaurants, DMVs, everywhere, that we’ve created custom integrations for. So we grabbed that data in real time and coupled that with a hundred plus external data forces, so like traffic patterns, of course, weather, we get data from the telecoms, which is nice, and all this goes into our modeling.
Marcus
So can I go on your site and see WhatsBusy right now or is this about when will it not be busy? Or when will it be my optimum condition?
Kash
Both. So you can go on our site right now and check out WhatsBusy right where you are or WhatsBusy in the future.
Marcus
Okay. And what’s your revenue model?
Kash
Sure. We monetize three different ways. So, the businesses pay us for optimizing their labor and helping them out, we also sell data back to the ecosystem so suppliers, manufacturers and distributors can make smarter decisions and we collect intelligent data around consumers. So one of the data sets that we have is probably one of the most unique data sets which is consumer intent. While you’re using our platform, you’re telling us what you’re interested in and when you want to do something in the future. So over time, we understand your behavioral patterns and we can market to you specifically.
Marcus
How many users do you have now?
Kash
Well, we just launched our consumer platform, so not very many, but we also have a partnership deal pending with a couple of major companies that are going to give us coverage to a few million users this month.
Marcus
Okay and what have you personally risked to do this startup?
Kash
Well, being a Co-Founder, you almost risk everything, in a sense. So we’ve bootstrapped this all the way up until now and of course you make a lot of sacrifices, so—including family and time, but it’s always worth it in the end.
Marcus
Are you—what are you hoping to get out of Launch Conference this year?
Kash
To meet the right types of people that can help us go forward and help people save time.
Marcus
Excellent. Excellent. And the last one is, if WhatsBusy were a Super Hero, what would its super power be?
Kash
Letting you go forward in time, I guess, I don’t know.
Marcus
That’s pretty good. Well, thanks so much.
Kash
Thanks very much.
